About Tsurupeta
Tsurupeta is an independent online magazine for cosplayers and makeup hobbyists — the people who know that a convention weekend actually starts weeks earlier, at a desk covered in brushes, lace fronts, setting spray and reference screenshots. We are fans first and editors second, and we built this magazine because we wanted a place where character makeup is treated as a real craft: playful in spirit, precise in execution, and always shared with the generosity of the cosplay community.
What we cover
Everything we publish fits into four pillars, and together they cover the full journey from bare face to finished character:
- Character Makeup — base work, colour theory, anime eyes, gender-bend contouring and the thousand tiny decisions that turn your face into someone else's.
- Special-Effects Makeup — scars, prosthetics, body paint, fantasy skin and creature work, explained safely and step by step.
- Wigs — choosing fibres, cutting, styling, spiking and teasing your way to gravity-defying silhouettes.
- Wig & Hair Care — washing, detangling, storage and rescue missions, so your favourite wig survives con season after con season.
How we work
Every tutorial on Tsurupeta is written the way we would want to learn it ourselves: numbered steps, honest timing estimates, clear lists of what you need, and photos of the messy middle stages — not just the glamorous final shot. If a technique takes three attempts to get right, we tell you that, and we tell you what went wrong on attempts one and two.
We test products and techniques before we recommend them, and we always try to offer a budget-friendly alternative alongside the dream option. Cosplay is for everyone, and a tutorial that only works with a hundred-euro palette is not a tutorial — it is a shopping list. When we do an overview of a product type, we focus on what actually matters at the craft table: pigmentation, wear time under hot convention lights, how it photographs, and how it comes off at two in the morning.
Who we write for
Our readers range from first-timers nervously gluing down their first lace front to seasoned competitors airbrushing full-body fantasy skin. We write for both, and for everyone in between. Beginner guides never talk down to you, and advanced guides never gatekeep. If a technique has a shortcut, we share it; if it has a trap, we flag it.
Fan to fan
Tsurupeta is not backed by a beauty conglomerate and we do not publish disguised advertising. When something is sponsored or gifted, we say so clearly. Our opinions are our own, our enthusiasm is genuine, and our loyalty is to the reader with glue on their fingers and a deadline before the con. Grab your brushes — let's make something amazing together.
